$5,000 to "Help Kosta find a Match!"
Kosta Flevaris, at the age of 38, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Even after several rounds of chemotherapy, the profile of his cancerous cells puts him in the high risk category of the disease returning. The only way to reverse this situation is to do a blood stem cell transfusion from a donor or a hybrid process that he is now exploring. This summer while partnering with "Be The Match", we have been conducting and collected over 2,000 samples to try and find him a match. At the same time, there are over 2,000 samples that need to get tested in Greece, from a region that could have a high probability of matching him....but without adequate funding, the testing time frame is prolonged. Funding is necessary to bring those samples to a US testing facility to hopefully find a match for Kosta. This search and endeavor will incur many costs associated with either locating the stem cell match or partaking in a therapy that will prolong his life. Alternative therapies and long term care options will prove to be very costly to him if a match isn't found very soon. He has incurred over 1 million dollars in medical costs.
